This ever-increasing phenomenon is the focus of numerous studies, and Dr Zwillinger shared some valuable insights into the reasons behind this epidemic of myopia and ways of preventing it.
Why will we soon all be short-sighted?
This trend can be explained in part by the excessive use of screens and the lack of exposure to natural light, two key factors that influence the development of myopia from childhood onwards.
During the E=M6 “we soon all be short-sighted” programme , she detailed how our modern lifestyles are contributing to this alarming increase in the number of cases of myopia worldwide.
Preventing myopia from childhood

Encouraging children to spend time outdoors and reducing their time in front of screens are crucial actions to limit the risk of becoming myopic.
Thanks to her expertise, she explained how these simple adjustments to daily habits can have a significant impact on visual health.
